"Tenet": we attended the special session for those who did not understand

2020-09-07T18:36:31.089Z

Sessions reserved for spectators who have already seen the film "Tenet" and wishing for clarification will be organized again this Thursday 1

In less than two weeks, “Tenet” has happily crossed the million mark in cinemas in France.

Not sure that everyone understood the film, which mixes James Bond spy and Matrix-style philosophical science fiction.

Christopher Nolan is known for the complexity of his plots, and even ten years after its release, talking about the meaning of his film “Inception” can spark a sleepless night of debate.

This is precisely to answer the questions of those who have seen "Tenet" but still have a few questions - about inverted entropy, the red cords on Neil's backpack (Robert Pattinson on screen), or the strange names of some characters (Arepo, Sator…) - that the Warner Bros studio offers catch-up sessions.

The premiere took place on Thursday September 3 at Pathé La Villette (Paris, 19th century), in the presence of three experts who discussed the feature film.

A half-hour intervention which was filmed and will be broadcast on Thursday September 10 before the screening of the film in 16 IMAX theaters in France.

Tenet: even having seen the film twice "it's still difficult to understand"

Film critic Philippe Rouyer (“Le Cercle” on Canal +) underlines the connections between the film and the James Bond universe, but also with current themes: “Nolan reinvents the formula of the spy film with ecological issues .

But the villain, who wants to destroy the world, also wants to destroy his wife, to commit feminicide.

He says: If

I can't have you, I don't want anyone to have you,

which is exactly what men who kill their wives say.

"The imagery of the magic square" of Pompeii

YouTuber cinema and specialist of Nolan, Jean-Baptiste Toussaint, him, returns on an unexpected inspiration of the director: “Nolan uses the imagery of the magic square of Sator in his film, an inscription which one notably found in Pompeii, city cited in

Tenet

.

It is a palindromic square, comprising five aligned words which can be read in all directions.

And we find all the words of Sator's square in the film:

Sator

is the name of the villain,

Arepo

that of the arms dealer, Tenet is the title of the film,

Opera

- the first scene takes place in an opera -, and

Rotas

is the name of Sator's warehouses ”!

As for the last speaker, Fabien Olicard, mentalist and videographer with a solid scientific culture, he explains what entropy and time inversion consist of, two concepts used in the film.

Speakers: the speaker, Jean-Baptiste Toussaint, Philippe Rouyer and Fabien Olicard.

Comments appreciated by spectators caught at the exit of the film, like Rania, a young executive secretary in Paris, who describes herself as a "self-taught astrophysics enthusiast".

“Fortunately, I understood the first time.

But the second vision allowed me to better see everything in the film that is outside the time theme, such as societal issues.

Benjamin, in his thirties, sales assistant in the capital, admits that “

Tenet

is hard to follow, but at the same time very captivating.

There are different chronologies in the film, which intersect, and which we do not always understand at first sight.

By the second, obviously, we understand a little better.

The film is so rich that it is difficult to see and remember everything.

It's very brilliant, very intelligent, and it deserves to be seen, reviewed.

And it also makes you want to do some research on the Internet to find out more!

"It's a real palindrome film"

Mohammed, 26, film blogger, tried an interesting experiment: “I wanted to understand if the film could be seen in both directions, and it is!

It's a real palindrome movie.

When I watch it for the third time, and it will be when it comes out on video, I think I'll try to look at it upside down, to see if it can be understood the same way!

Watching the film again allows us to understand much better the motivations of Sator

(Editor's note: the villain, played by Kenneth Branagh)

and to better understand everything he says ”.
