Investing money is currently considered difficult.
Interest rates are in the basement or even negative, the stock market is more shaky than usual in the corona crisis. And relatives who want to give the next generation not only high-quality but also special gifts sometimes despair of the wishes of the young.
Perhaps for them there is an option in the story of a 28 year old man from Great Britain.
His father bought him a bottle of 18 year old whiskey when he was born.
He repeated this over the years and gave his son a vintage bottle of the same brand every year.
Since 1992 he has spent about £ 5,000 on Macallan single malt.
In retrospect, the spirits turned out to be a good investment.
The collection is now worth more than 40,000 pounds - and is now intended to be used to finance a home for the recipient.
Father is from Scotland
The whiskey bottles are "probably not" the best present for a little boy, but with the "strict instructions never to open them" they have become a welcome nest egg, said Matthew Robson from Taunton, England, to the BBC.
At first he saw it as a "rather quirky gift", especially since he was too young to drink alcohol.
According to the report, father Pete bought the first bottle, born in 1974, to "wet the baby's head".
Fortunately, the man from Milnathort in Scotland also kept his hands off the drink.
That he kept the regular gifts was also "a bit of luck".
Father and son were also lucky with the development of prices.
The Macallan whiskey developed into a collector's item for lovers, one whiskey broker spoke of a "perfect set" according to the BBC.
Buyers from New York and Asia are said to have already expressed interest.
To everyone who is now hesitating whether whiskey is actually a good gift: If the performance does not work out as desired, at least there is still the option to drink.
