Ernst August von Hannover was arrested by the police in Austria.

A spokesman for the Wels public prosecutor's office in Upper Austria confirmed this to SPIEGEL.

The 66-year-old is accused of verbally threatening two employees - a married couple - on Monday night.

He is also said to have smashed a window with a traffic sign, according to a police press release.

Ernst August was transferred to the prison in Wels.

As the "Kronenzeitung" reports, Ernst August was arrested in his hunting lodge in Grünau im Almtal.

According to the "Krone", the woman had reported the prince.

She said that Ernst August had yelled at her and her husband to "sneak up", otherwise he would send them a gang of thugs.

Ernst August, notorious for his freaking out, had two problems with the local police and judiciary in July.

According to the Austrian news agency APA, investigations are already underway against the prince because of these incidents.

Ernst August belongs to the royal family of the Guelphs.

Last year Ernst August von Hanover's family hit the headlines because Ernst August junior wanted to sell the Marienburg Welfenschloss to a foundation in Lower Saxony for one euro - against his father's wishes.

Ernst August junior had drawn attention to the high debts that the operating company of the castle had accumulated under the direction of the Guelphs.

The Marienburg is the old summer residence of the Princely House of the Welfs.

The castle, built between 1858 and 1867 in the neo-Gothic style, is located around 20 kilometers south of Hanover and has been preserved in an almost authentic form, including its furnishings.

Today it serves as a destination.

The sale of the property to the foundation, negotiated between the state government and Ernst August junior, is politically controversial.

Because the castle is dilapidated.

It is to be renovated for a total of 27 million euros with funds from the federal government and the state of Lower Saxony.

Lower Saxony had stopped selling until the Welfs resolved their family dispute.
