School, Azzolina: 'Extraordinary year, it won't be like before'

2020-09-12T17:40:59.718Z

'I do not deny critical issues, we are solving. Six months for the restart? We had to close the year '(ANSA)

"We cannot imagine the school as it was in the previous year: we are at the time of the coronavirus".

Thus the Minister of Education Lucia Azzolina to Corriere Tv. "I know that we are asking families to make small sacrifices but we have to find the balance between returning to school minimizing the risks and asking sacrifices from families. The important thing is to return to school knowing that it is an extraordinary year. But the school of the past years was not perfect ".

"The students have great enthusiasm, they want to go back to school", "this year will be a new first day of school, different for everyone" with a "sense of hope and courage, and certain fears will be put aside".

According to the minister, the ordinance of the governor of Piedmont which establishes that the temperature measurement must be done at school, while the ministry has decided for everyone that it should be done at home by parents, is "untimely and inappropriate", " he understands why confusion should be created in Italy ".

In these hours there are talks between the government and President Cirio "and shortly there will be a decision on the possible challenge of the government of the ordinance.

On the issue of 'fragile' students, or those who for health reasons may have difficulty returning to school in this time of pandemic, Azzolina explains that an ordinance is on the way, now "under consideration by the Higher Council of Public Education. Nothing forbids to schools where there are equipment "to establish connections that allow students who are at home to video connect, and" even to those who simply have a cold "and therefore have to stay at home.

"If the school is set up and has the tools, why not? I think there is a willingness to include students" on the part of the school leaders.

As for the nominations from the rankings, "they are taking place these days: it takes a little patience", "it has happened in recent years too".

As for the 70,000 additional teachers for the Covid emergency, "they will be appointed directly by the school administrators in the coming weeks. No one denies small critical issues: we are solving them in a very difficult period".
