With the worsening number of people infected with the virus daily, which reached 5,000 people across the country yesterday, it seems worthwhile to re-examine the data presented in recent weeks - and which could have served as a flashing warning light for Israelis and especially for their Knesset members.

On August 24, almost a month ago, during the discussions of the Corona Committee in the Knesset, a debate arose between the committee's chairman, MK Yifat Shasha-Bitton, and the Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Itamar Grotto, regarding the morbidity data. Corona "and angered Chairman Shasha-Bitton, who insisted that" no one denies anything "and added that the rate of morbidity is declining.

The term "corona denial" was already mentioned at the Corona committee meeting on August 24, ahead of the start of the school year.

Following the mention, a heated debate broke out between MK Shasha-Bitton and Prof. Grotto over the question of whether the rate of morbidity is declining - or not. The number of infections that day was 1,809, the next day it rose to 1,988, and by the end of August it had already jumped to 2,576.

In early September, more than 2,000 infected people were reported daily, and from September 7, the numbers have so far begun to climb to a range of about 4,700-3,000 verified each day.

The total number of infected, as of now: 162,273 people.

In addition, on August 24, the day of the Corona Committee's hearing, the number of active patients in Israel was 21,983.

The graph then showed a significant decrease in the number of activists, after the record set on July 27 with 36,378 patients.

Today, 40,689 active patients were reported, with corona wards in hospitals recording high occupancy, in the proportion of more than 100 percent, and with over 3,000 health staff members in isolation.

To this must be added the number of victims, which already stands at 1,141 people, compared to 847 who died on August 24.

However, MK Shasha-Bitton, who supported the opening of the gyms and pools during the summer, reiterated at the committee's hearing in August that the morbidity rate was "going down". This was the conversation between her and Prof. Grotto at the same meeting:

Prof. Grotto: "If we had behaved the way they did in New York, we would have been with 16,000 dead."

MK Shasha-Bitton: "There is no Corona denial here.

Can you say that the rate of morbidity is not going down? "

Prof. Grotto: "Do a test now, no one signs that the pace is slowing down."

MK Shasha-Bitton: "Let's go to the numbers.

How many deceased, sick and verified are there in front of the number of serious patients?

You see for yourself, the number of verified is growing every day.

We are still in stable condition according to your data.

We see that the number of active patients is declining, so no one here denies anything.

We are dealing with Corona, but we need to deal with it properly. "

Prof. Grotto: "I tell you, leave it to the epidemiologists to analyze the data and say if the disease is going down. To say that the disease is going down? I'm sorry, do not sign it."
