It's a long-awaited announcement by content creators operating on Twitch, Amazon's live video streaming platform.

This Tuesday, Twitch and Sacem announced the signing of an agreement "

to remunerate the rights to authors, composers and publishers who are members of Sacem when their music is shared or broadcast in livestream

" on the platform.

The objective is twofold: to provide remuneration to artists who decide to perform live on Twitch, and to allow them to collect copyright if the works have been broadcast by a third party on the platform.

The practice of live concerts developed during the confinement.

With the closing of the rooms, artists, DJs and comedians have turned to social networks to keep in touch with their audience.

At the end of May, Sacem designed an emergency system to pay its members who performed for free and live on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube.

It consists of a fixed remuneration (10 euros for a title, 46.65 euros for a performance of less than 20 minutes, 76 euros beyond), to which is added 0.001 euros per viewing.

The artist must exceed 1000 views to claim this remuneration, and declare his

livestreams

to Sacem.

This amount paid to authors and composers comes from the license paid by Facebook and Google to supervise the distribution of music from the Sacem repertoire on their platforms.

Unclear the consequences for streamers

After deconfinement, Sacem wished to perpetuate this device and extend it to other social networks.

This is the case with Twitch, "

with whom we have been talking since this summer,

" said a spokesperson.

From now on, the artists will be assured of collecting royalties from Sacem if they decide to perform live on this site.

In the future, they will no longer need to declare these livestreams: "

Twitch and Sacem will jointly develop computer applications aimed at simplifying and optimizing the identification and reporting of works broadcast

", indicates Sacem.

The agreement also assures members of Sacem that their copyright will be protected if a Twitch content creator uses their works in one of his videos.

But the concrete consequences for streamers are not yet known.

Will they be able to dig at their leisure in the Sacem catalog without being worried?

As on YouTube, will they have to give up advertising revenue for the videos concerned, revenue which will be paid to the artists?

Le Figaro contacted Sacem and Twitch to clarify these points.

The article will be updated with their responses.
