The announcement had sounded like a provocation.
Barely out of his first meeting with the new Prime Minister Jean Castex at the beginning of July, Philippe Martinez the secretary general of the CGT had launched his call for mobilization for September 17.
After a confined May 1 which had deprived the Montreuil power station of its traditional parade, the message was clear: the union was determined to make a success of its social return by mobilizing massively, as in 2019 when the pension reform project had taken the place of catalyst for anger.
But on the eve of the big day, the troops may well be more sparse than expected.
At the end of August, the CGT received the support of Solidaires, officials of the FSU from youth organizations (Fidl, MNL, Unef and UNL).
But the reformist unions preferred to pass their turn and will not join the 131 processions scheduled throughout France this Thursday.
