French gamers will have to wait until November 19 to get the PlayStation 5. The release date of the new Sony console was made official Tuesday evening during a 40-minute presentation broadcast on the Internet.
US, Canadian, Japanese, Mexican, South Korean, Australian and New Zealand gamers are luckier: the console will be released there a week earlier, on November 12.
The PlayStation 5 will be available in two models, sold respectively at 399 and 499 euros.
The price difference is due to the lack of a disc player on the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
Concretely, with this model, you will have to buy your games on the PlayStation Store online store and download them to your console.
This means that it will be impossible to resell your games, lend them to friends, or get them on the second-hand market.
This model will also not be able to play BluRay format movies.
Consumers embarrassed by these limitations will have to turn to the model at 499 euros.
Sony also took advantage of this presentation to highlight video games exclusive to its PlayStation 5 - but which will however be released on PC.
Final Fantasy XVI
opened the conference.
The new installment of the famous role-playing saga will be released only on PlayStation 5 and PC.
Already known, the action game of the French Arkane Studio
Deathloop
will also be exclusive and will be released in the second half of the year 2021.
The publisher Warner has unveiled another role-playing game, set in the Harry Potter universe:
Hogwarts Legacy
(Hogwarts legacy).
But this game will also be released on Microsoft's Xbox Series.
A faster console
The PlayStation 5 will have the difficult task of succeeding the PlayStation 4 and its more than 112 million units sold since the end of 2013, one of the greatest successes in the history of video games.
The new generation console highlights its superior graphic qualities, but also its speed.
Forgotten, the long minutes needed to launch a game, and all the loading times that hasten the experience.
Sony promises that this waiting time will be reduced to seconds, and sometimes even nonexistent.
The Japanese also want to go quickly to fill shelves and avoid stockouts.
Delta Cargo China told Chinese media Caixin that Sony has booked around 60 flights from October to bring its consoles from Asian production plants to the United States.
The cargo plane is a much faster mode of transport than merchant ships, but also more expensive.
Microsoft releases its Xbox on November 10
The PlayStation 5 will face Microsoft's Xbox Series on the shelves.
This console will be released on November 10.
It will cost 300 euros for its Series S model, without a disk drive, and 500 euros for the Series X model, with higher graphics performance.
Microsoft is betting on its Xbox Game Pass subscription to attract a large audience.
For 12.99 euros per month, it allows you to draw at your leisure in a catalog of a hundred video games, including all Xbox exclusives on the day of their release.
Xbox Game Pass also works in the cloud: the subscriber can find his favorite games and continue his game on his Android smartphone, without prior download.
