A football coach has been imprisoned for two and a half years for a violent attack on a 16-year-old player.
The district court in Nuremberg saw it as proven on Thursday that the defendant had hit the youth after a game and kicked the head.
Judge Markus Bader said that he was guilty of attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm.
In addition to the prison sentence, the now 50-year-old is no longer allowed to work as a football coach or supervisor for three years after the verdict.
In the district league game between two youth teams, the court held that there was a fight between several players after two red cards last November.
The coach of the away team then hit the 16-year-old from the Nuremberg team at least three times in the face and then kicked him twice in the head, said Bader.
The teenager suffered a triple fracture of the lower jaw and a concussion.
