(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 18 - Harvey Weinstein, the very powerful American film producer who ended up in the storm for sexual abuse and sentenced in March, has been deprived of the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), the most civil honor high rank of the United Kingdom after the knighthood.
Weinstein received the title from Queen Elizabeth in 2004. In March, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison, following an investigation following a New York Times report in October 2017 that published testimonies of several women abused or harassed by the producer.
Three years ago, Weinstein was also deprived of a 2002 award from the British Film Institute.
It was an ad hoc independent committee, which in the United Kingdom is responsible for the revision of state decorations, to evaluate the revocation of the honor granted at the time by the sovereign.
