(ANSA) - BRUSSELS - Exclude PDO and PGI products and mono-ingredient products such as olive oil from the European nutrition label, which will have to take into account the dietary guidelines of each country.
These are the proposals contained in a document that Italy and six other EU countries (Czech Republic, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Latvia and Romania) will bring to the attention of agriculture ministers in the Council scheduled for next Monday.
A "harmonized at EU level" nutrition label, the document states "should educate and consider foods in the more general context of healthy and balanced diets", and be voluntary, with the possibility for Member States to make it mandatory.
