The Ministry of Education through the Lazio Regional School Office asked for an in-depth study on the affair relating to the
Socrate high school in Rome in which the vice-
principal
would have invited the students not to wear skimpy clothes.
In fact, the desks have been removed to respect the distancing - we are waiting for the arrival of single-seaters - and the skirts that are too short, according to the teacher, would attract the glances of professors and male companions.
The observation would not have pleased the students, however, who today showed up en masse in skirts and posted signs of denunciation against sexism.
"It is obvious that female students and students must attend classes with decent clothing, as a sign of respect for the institution that the school represents and for themselves. However, it is only acceptable that the motivation underlying this dutiful conduct refers to a hypothetical and deplorable
voyeurism of teachers (men).
Teachers who, moreover, play an important educational role ".
This was stated by the president of the National Association of Principals, Antonello Giannelli.
"We must avoid - explains the union leader - that, due to an evident and marginal communication incident, the category of teachers is perceived by public opinion in a distorted and degraded way and that the Socrates high school is erroneously represented as a garrison of a culture obscurantist. The episode demonstrates, once more, how essential it is to use words correctly and consciously ".
"Correct communication at school is essential. Suggesting clothing suitable for the place and in accordance with shared codes of conduct is absolutely legitimate for students, but also teachers."
Vittoria Casa, president of the 5-Star Movement in the Culture Committee at Montecitorio
writes this on Facebook
,
stressing: "On the other hand, it is wrong to ask students not to wear a miniskirt because otherwise professors could fall off their eyes.
