(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 19 - The government is preparing to slightly lower the GDP estimates in 2020. In the update note of the Def expected by the end of the month, fontivicine refer to the dossier, the bar should settle at around -9%.
The previous estimate, dating back to April and contained in the Def, was -8%.
The new estimate was broadly anticipated by the Minister of Economy, Roberto Gualtieri, who had announced a revision that was not too dramatic, with a year-end closing with a drop of less than double figures.
However, this would be a much lower number than that calculated by the major international institutions. Last but not least is that of the OECD which this week has foreseen for Italy a contraction of the economy of 10.5%. In July, the European Commission has instead estimated a fall in the Pild of 11.2%. In June, the International Monetary Fund instead spoke of an even deeper -12.8%. (HANDLE).
