From the surprising -22.2% in Venice to -7.5% in Florence, from the robust -7.3% in Bologna to -4.5% in Rome: hotel prices collapse in the post-Covid period.

The main tourist resorts, crushed by the Covid-19 crisis, are in deflation with regard to hotel prices and record sustained drops in housing prices.

The National Consumers Union has processed the Istat inflation data for August, drawing up the ranking of the cities and regions that have registered the lowest annual increases in accommodation and catering services, distinguishing those of accommodation from those of catering.

Venice, the tourist city par excellence, is in second place in the national ranking that sees Trapani in first place, with an annual decline of 29.8%, or almost a third.

In third place Grosseto, -14.8%, then Lucca, -13.9% and in fifth place Rimini, -10.3%.

On a national average, prices fall on a trend basis by 2.1%.

"It is clear that this record deflation is the sign of the crisis and the lower tourist influx of Italians and foreigners recorded this summer due to the Covid emergency. To the collapse in demand, hoteliers reacted as they could and should, ie by lowering prices. , so as to try to contain the losses "says Massimiliano Dona, president of the National Consumers Union.

And he continues: "A drop in prices benefited consumers, saving on the cost of the holiday. Unfortunately, we fear that neither the drop in prices nor the decidedly underutilized holiday bonus was enough to revive the sector. Given the dramatic situation it was needed. a major shock. This is why we proposed to the Government to eliminate VAT for 3 months for the entire tourism sector, so that the discount made by the hoteliers could be added to that paid by the State, making the holidays more attractive ".

On the other side of the ranking, the highest annual increases for Parma (+ 11.4%), Cosenza (11.1%) and Cuneo (+ 8.4%).

"Between the city most in deflation and the one with the highest price rises, that is, between Trapani and Parma - explains Dona - there are over 40 percentage points of difference (41.2), a sign of how the reaction of the hoteliers was very different depending on of the city and, above all, of the tourist flows, evidently very diversified. Some localities have suffered more from the reduction of foreign tourists. Not for nothing, the regions most in deflation are Tuscany, in first place with a drop in hotel prices by 6 , 7%, then Veneto (-6.5%) and Liguria (-6.3%) in third place. On the other hand, prices rise in Trentino Alto Adige, with a record rise of 5.3% and in Campania, + 4.1% ".

According to the association's analysis, however, restaurants have slightly increased their prices.

On the national average, in fact, in August they rose by 2.1% on an annual basis and there are no such evident disparities on the national territory.

Only 3 cities have imperceptibly reduced their prices: Livorno (-0.2%), La Spezia (-0.1%) and Bergamo (-0.1%).

The greatest increases for Trapani (+ 4.6%), Grosseto (+ 4.2%) and Pordenone (+ 3.9%).

as for the stable regions, prices only in Valle d'Aosta.

The greatest increases in Friuli-Venezia Giulia (+ 2.7%) and Trentino (+ 2.1%).
