Julian Bugier: "I want to end the image of the ideal son-in-law"

2020-09-22T18:38:06.280Z

The one who made himself known as a joker intends to assert himself and renew the 1 hour newscast of France 2, of which he will take the reins in

We hang up our phone at 12:59 p.m.

To believe that Julian Bugier already has the 13 Hours in the skin.

The 39-year-old journalist was chosen Monday to succeed Marie-Sophie Lacarrau from January 4 at the helm of the mid-day newspaper of France 2. The journalist, joker for nine years of the 20 Hours, intends to make changes to his future newspaper to resist the competition of the edition of TF1, which will take again his former colleague.

Honestly, did you hesitate for more than 2 seconds when you were offered the 13 Hours?

JULIAN BUGIER.

(Laughs.)

I took the time to reflect because I am a Cartesian person.

But no, of course, I didn't hesitate for long.

It was a great joy.

It is a consecration to be tenured when one was joker for nine years?

It is above all a huge responsibility.

And that rewards my work and my loyalty to public service.

I have always felt good in this box.

Despite attempts at poaching, I always wanted to stay because I am very attached to the spirit of public service.

Did you feel a sense of revenge, when you publicly regretted not having been chosen when David Pujadas left?

When we are young, we are sometimes a little eruptive!

I had said what was on my mind, without thinking that it would be brought back to me four years later!

Since then I have calmed down.

I no longer had any bitterness.

I had found my professional balance by presenting major special editions or debates.

I am not at all revenge.

Thank you Laurent 👍✨ https://t.co/hxnGkyLH4N

How many messages do we receive after such a promotion?

I have received hundreds of them.

Friends and many colleagues and colleagues.

People who mean a lot to me because they have accompanied me, like David Pujadas, Ruth Elkrief or Thierry Thuillier who now manages the news of TF1.

My phone was on fire for several hours (laughs).

I wanted to answer everyone so I spent the evening there!

What is the message that touched you the most?

Those who, like Michel Drucker, told me “You see, Julian, work always pays off.

»I am self-taught.

I made meetings that shaped me but above all I worked a lot.

I have always loved this job, so intellectually rewarding.

Let's talk about Marie-Sophie Lacarrau.

How do you prepare to become the competitor of your former colleague?

I hope that we will not be presented as rivals ... As she so rightly said: we will always remain friends and colleagues.

I sincerely wish him the best.

Were you surprised to see her go to TF1?

No, she was one of the potential successors of Jean-Pierre Pernaut.

In four years, she has created a strong link with viewers.

Marie-Sophie is a wonderful, simple and very friendly woman.

In this profession, there are a lot of people who give themselves an image on television and who are different in life.

Not her.

And viewers feel it.

I will always have nice words for her.

Do you plan to change the editorial line of your news?

Yes.

This will be one of the projects for the months to come.

The 13 Hours must evolve with the times and the times.

We are going to work on an enriched version, with debates and discovery for example.

As in my magazine “Tout Compte fait”, I want to show this France which moves and which innovates.

I had proposed a program to the management, "I have an idea for France".

I don't know if it will see the light of day, but I want to show these ideas in the 13 Hours.

My leitmotif is this sentence from Jacques Chancel: “You must not give the viewer what he likes but what he might like.

"

What does the departure of Jean-Pierre Pernaut inspire you?

Thirty-two years of JT is huge.

I'm 39 so I feel like I grew up with him.

His great strength is having known how to embody his newspaper.

We did not watch the 13 Hours of TF1.

But the 13 Hours of Pernaut.

In each subject, he put his personality.

It commands respect.

Modestly, I will try to let go a little more.

And to put an end to the image of the ideal son-in-law

(laughs)

.

My mother-in-law would tell you: I'm more of a pain in the ass than an ideal son-in-law!

Julian Bugier at the Victoires de la musique in February, with Maxime Le Forestier, Vianney and Alain Souchon.

LP

"All in all", "Crisis staff", the evenings going on ... Are you going to have to stop everything?

No, there is no reason for “All in all” to stop.

I really care about it and consumption is more than ever a major issue.

Continuous evenings are very occasional so it's doable.

As for “Crisis Unit,” we are preparing two new issues.

Can we prepare the 13h00 in the early morning, and continue with the info section of the evening of Europe 1?

Europe 1 trusted me and I am a man of my word.

I won't give up in the middle of the race.

I will finish the season.

In September, the priority will be the 13 Hours.

Your start to 2021 will therefore be very busy!

With a healthy lifestyle, nothing is impossible.

And I will rest this summer since for the first time in ten years I will be able to take advantage of the school holidays and not ensure my role as joker.

I assure you that my children this morning applauded with both hands on hearing the news!
