Closure of bars and restaurants in Marseille: local elected officials do not fuss

2020-09-23T20:16:55.248Z

Mayor and regional president are in shock this Wednesday after the classification of Aix-Marseille in “maximum alert zone”.

“Collective punishment”, “unilateral decision”.

The LR president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, Renaud Muselier, denounces this Wednesday the measures decreed in the metropolis of Aix-Marseille, passed in the maximum alert zone.

For the mayor of Marseille, Michèle Rubirola, "nothing justifies this announcement".

According to the new government classification unveiled by Olivier Véran this Wednesday evening, Guadeloupe and Aix-Marseille have therefore been placed in "maximum alert zone", due to the worrying circulation of the coronavirus.

The town hall "was not consulted", denounces Rubirola

As a result, bars and restaurants will remain completely closed from Monday, just like all establishments open to the public, unless there is a strict health protocol for a period of fifteen days.

Elsewhere, in other large metropolises, placed on a state of “heightened alert” such as Paris, only bars will be required to close at 10 pm.

Or earlier, if the prefect so decides.

A “unilateral decision”, according to LR president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, Renaud Muselier.

For him, it is a "quasi-reconfinement".

"This collective punishment is extremely hard for the economy of our territories," wrote in a statement the president of the region who would have preferred a strengthening of controls and administrative closures for unscrupulous establishments of health measures.

Closing the bars and restaurants of @AMPMetropole for 15 days is a virtual re-containment!

I take note of it but I regret it.

We made concerted decisions 9 days ago, they were starting to work, it's a collective punishment!

Same anger on the side of the mayor of Marseille, Michèle Rubirola.

“I learn with astonishment and anger a decision for which the town hall of Marseille was not consulted.

Nothing in the health situation justifies this announcement.

I do not accept that the Marseillais are victims of political decisions that no one can understand, ”writes the councilor on Twitter.

I learn with astonishment and anger a decision for which the City of Marseille was not consulted.

Nothing in the health situation justifies this announcement.

I do not accept that the Marseillais are victims of political decisions that no one can understand.
