These recordings are from the bridge of a ship fighting its way through tropical storm Beta in the Gulf of Mexico.

Chief engineer Robert Phillips filmed with his mobile phone when the offshore utility got into the storm off the US state of Louisiana - with very high waves.

According to Philipps, the crew remained unharmed.

Slight damage was caused to the ship.

The storm had mixed up the cargo, as further pictures of the engineer on Twitter show.

Beta is already the third storm within a month in the Gulf of Mexico after hurricanes Laura and Sally.

The people in the affected areas have to deal mainly with heavy rain and floods.

Beta has now dropped to a tropical low - with waves that are significantly smaller than those that engineer Phillips filmed with his cell phone.
