In France, a student claims to have been insulted and beaten for wearing a skirt.

As the French media unanimously reported, the incident occurred last Friday during the day near downtown Strasbourg.

The men called her a "slut in a skirt," the woman told the regional radio station France Bleu Alsace.

They then held two of the men and the third hit her in the face before the attackers fled, the student said.

Around 15 people saw the attack but did nothing, said the 22-year-old.

The woman filed a complaint against unknown persons, now the police are investigating.

The student, however, described the incident in a video on the channel "France Bleu" and showed her black eye and swollen face.

Meanwhile, the French government also commented on the incident.

Government spokesman Gabriel Attal condemned the alleged act as "very serious".

"In France you have to be able to take to the streets the way you like it," said Attal.

It is completely unacceptable if "a woman feels in danger, is insulted, threatened or beaten because of her clothes".

Ministry of the Interior wants to improve dialogue with victims of sexual violence

The assistant minister in the Ministry of the Interior and ex-State Secretary for Equality, Marlène Schiappa, traveled to Strasbourg on Wednesday.

There she wants to talk to representatives of the police and the prefecture about better protection for women.

According to a media report, Schiappa announced that it would employ a social worker at the Strasbourg police station by 2021 to improve dialogue between victims of gender-based and sexual violence and the police.
