Donald Trump has now chosen who to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the Supreme Court, at least according to the sources of the Republican party cited by the US media.

The new judge who will be appointed by the American president, barring sensational last minute surprises, is Amy Coney Barrett, magistrate of the Chicago Court of Appeals and former assistant to the late conservative judge of the Supreme Court Antonin Scalia, known for its anti-abortion positions.

The announcement of the White House is expected in the next few hours.

Coney's choice is strongly disliked by the Democrats who would like to postpone the appointment until after the vote.

On the contrary, and Trump intends to immediately lock down the highest US judicial body with a conservative majority (6 Republican-appointed judges against 3 Democratic-nominated judges).

That High Court that could find itself first of all to settle the possible legal disputes after the Election day on November 3rd.

Meanwhile, in the US, there are now open fears that the elections of November 3 will turn into an institutional crisis, with chaos and street protests, after Donald Trump refused to commit to a peaceful transition in case of defeat.

Even the assurances of the White House seem misleading because the spokeswoman said that "the president will accept the results of free and fair elections".

But this is precisely the point: Trump continues to sow doubts about the legitimacy of the elections, so much so that shortly after he reiterated that he is not sure that the elections can be "honest" because of the vote by post.

A vote that tends to favor the dem and that will probably delay the proclamation of the winner by days.

The concerns are so strong that the Senate unanimously passed a (non-binding) resolution reaffirming "its commitment to the orderly and peaceful transfer of power required by the US Constitution."

The document also supports the idea that "there must be no obstructions by the president or any person in power to overthrow the will of the people of the United States".
