The presence of Italian companies in e-commerce is growing but the gap with other European countries still remains to be offset.

Today on Amazon there are 14,000 Italian SMEs which in 2019 exported products worth over 500 million euros and created 25,000 jobs.

"These are encouraging growth figures, but compared to other European countries, the path is still long. Only a third of Italian SMEs are digitized and only one in seven (of those with more than 10 employees) has a significant online turnover".

This is the photograph taken by Giulio Lampugnani, Amazon's Head of Sellers Services FBA for Italy, interviewed by ANSA.

The Covid emergency has "brought an acceleration", adds Lampugnani, citing a research by the Politecnico di Milano, according to which, "e-commerce purchases are growing in Italy, but continue to represent a small portion of overall purchases. 2020 the incidence of online sales on total retail sales went from 6% to 8% ".

Furthermore, according to the Netcomm Consortium (the Italian Digital Hub for the evolution of businesses towards digital consumers in the world) "we are witnessing an unexpected evolution in the consumption patterns of Italians. Click & Collect mode, or the possibility of ordering an online product and collect it from the store by the customer, has grown by + 349% and it is expected that in the coming months it will become an increasingly consolidated habit ".

Amazon's goal is "to support Italian SMEs, through training courses aimed at educating companies on the subject of digitization and accompanying sellers on a path capable of having a positive impact on their activities", underlines the head of logistics services of Amazon in Italy.

Hence the "Journey to Amazon Prime" initiative: a week of training courses, scheduled online from 5 to 9 October, aimed at companies that, together with the experts of the e-commerce giant, "will return to school for learn more about Amazon and the tools available to grow their business ".

The event (which companies can participate in by registering on the website ww.amazon.it/viaggioversoamazonprime), will be dedicated in particular to Fulfillment by Amazon, which "allows you to benefit from services, such as fast shipping, efficient returns management and customer service. ".

The program includes several sessions between webinars, round tables and individual training with Amazon experts, starting from the very first steps to start selling on the marketplace and to give greater visibility to your brand, and then dedicate sessions on how to sell and send the own products throughout Europe.
