Covid-19 in France: nearly 16,000 cases recorded again in 24 hours

The day after a r ecord of the number of new daily cases since the launch of large-scale tests in France, the country recorded this Friday 15,797 new contaminations of Covid-19 in 24 hours, according to data released Friday by Public Health France.

The proportion of people infected among those tested continues to increase.

It is now 6.9%, against 6.5% the day before.

"We are still in an ascending phase of the epidemic, almost all indicators are on the rise," said Sophie Vaux, epidemiologist at Public Health France, during an online press briefing.

The health agency also notes the "increasingly strong circulation" of the virus among the elderly, who are at greater risk of developing a serious form of the disease.

56 additional deaths in hospitals

Over the past seven days, 4,069 patients have been hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Among these patients, 747 were admitted to intensive care (+29 compared to the day before), indicates the public health service.

While new restriction measures were announced this week, 56 Covid-19 patients died in 24 hours in hospital.

Since the start of the epidemic, at least 31,661 deaths linked to SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded in France, including 20,995 in hospitals.

Every day, the figures published by Public Health France also include the number of clusters identified in the country.

This Friday, the total number of clusters under investigation in the country stands at 1,125 (+91 since Wednesday), of which 222 have been identified in nursing homes.
