Death invested: prosecutor, sentence Genovese to 5 years

(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 28 - Five years in prison for multiple street homicides.

It is the request of the Public Prosecutor of Rome against Pietro Genovese, the young twenty-year-old who ran over Gaia Von Freymann and Camilla Romagnoli on the night between 21 and 22 December last year, killing them instantly.

A violent clash took place in Corso Francia while the two girls of just 16 were crossing the street.

The trial takes place with the abbreviated rite in front of the gup Gaspare Sturzo.

Genovese, before the prosecutor Roberto Felici took the floor for his inquiries, asked to be able to speak, to be able to tell his version of what happened that night.

"I didn't see the two girls. I remember I stopped at the traffic light and left again with the green light. I didn't want to kill anyone nor I wanted to escape: my life is destroyed", he said.

   The accused's words did not convince the families of the two young victims.

The mothers of Gaia and Camilla followed the reconstruction of Genovese in the classroom.

"I am deeply disappointed by his statements, it seemed like a play, he was indifferent to what happened - said Cristina Romagnoli, Camilla's mother. He never turned to look at us. He never asked for forgiveness".
