(ANSA) - NEW DELHI, 29 SEPTEMBER - Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated today, in a videoconference, six mega infrastructure projects in the state of Uttarakhand, in the north east of the country, as part of the national mission Mamami Gange, GangePulito.
The projects, whose total value reaches 60 million euros, include the construction of a purification plant to prevent polluted water from flowing into the river;
the improvement of the current water plant in Jagjeetpur, in the Haridwar district, worth about 20 million euros, and the construction of a purification plant, costing about 15 million euros, in Sarai, also in the Haridwar district.
The inauguration of the Jagjeetpur plant marks the conclusion of the first sewer project realized thanks to a partnership between public-private: insisting on this aspect, Modi stressed that "in the last decades numerous and extensive initiatives have been undertaken to clean the Ganges , but none have seen the real participation of the public and the necessary foresight: as a result, the river has never been cleaned so far. My government has committed itself and what we are inaugurating today are the results. We have not limited ourselves to the Ganges Clean mission, but we have written first chapter of the most ambitious river conservation project ever launched in the history of India ".
In fact, the projects envisage interventions to reduce pollution not only of the watercourse but also of cities and villages of Uttarakhand built along the banks of the Ganges.
Modi also announced the upcoming inauguration, also in Haridwar, of the Ganga Avalokan, the first museum dedicated to the biodiversity and culture of the river and the various activities undertaken to clean it up.
