Campania and Veneto are the regions where in 2020 the most requests for help were received from victims of usury.
This is what emerges from the 2020 annual report, presented by the extraordinary Commissioner for the coordination of anti-racket and anti-usury initiatives, who this year examined the phenomenon also in light of the effects of the crisis due to Covid.
So far, the Solidarity Committee for the victims of extortion and usury has examined 1,584 positions since the beginning of the year and approved the granting of 18 million and 600 thousand euros in donations (over 15 million) and mortgages (over 3 million).
In 2020, around thirty requests for help arrived to the Committee from Campania and Veneto for each of the two regions;
about 20 from Puglia and 15 from Lombardy, followed by Tuscany.
With regard to the requests received for extortion, there were 60 from Campania, 50 from Puglia and 20 from Sicily.
Campania is also the region for which the highest amount for mortgages granted through the Solidarity Committee for victims of usury (over one million euros) was recorded, followed by Puglia and Sicily.
In Campania, the largest sums were approved for donations by the Solidarity Committee also to the victims of extortion, over five million, followed by Sicily, about 4 million 800 thousand euros, and from Puglia, with one million seven hundred thousand.
With regard to donations in favor of victims of usury, the decrees from the beginning of 2020 until 31 August concern 77% of activities in the wholesale and retail trade, repair of cars, motorcycles and personal goods.
9% for hotels and restaurants.
For the benefits in favor of victims of extortion, however, 18% of the decrees concerned the construction sector and 12% that of the wholesale and retail trade.
