Liverpool's Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara has tested positive for coronavirus, the English champion club announced.
The 29-year-old former Bayern Munich did not play last night against Arsenal, a game won 3-1 by the Reds, and is in solitary confinement, according to the Premier League health protocols.
The Spanish international, who made his debut with Liverpool against Chelsea on 20 September, will therefore miss the other match of the week against Tottenham, Thursday in the League Cup, and the trip to Aston Villa on Sunday in the league.
Alcantara could return for the derby with Everton on 17 October.
The Premier League announced yesterday that ten members of its 20 clubs tested positive for Covid-19 last week, the largest number of cases since the testing schedule went systematic last May.
