Coronavirus in France: 80 new deaths and 18,746 contaminations in 24 hours, a record

The number of contaminations has reached a record since the start of the school year, according to the latest report from Public Health France.


A sad record.

According to the latest figures published this Wednesday evening, some 18,746 new cases of Covid-19 contamination have been recorded in the past 24 hours.

Remember that the previous "record" was reached last Saturday with 16,972 cases.

In the past 24 hours, 80 patients have succumbed to Covid-19, bringing the total toll to 32,445 the number of victims of the coronavirus in France, including 26,660 in hospital.

The test positivity rate now stands at 9.1% against 9% on Tuesday.

919 new patients with the most severe form of the disease had to be admitted to an intensive care unit over the last seven days.

6 million cases in Europe

More than 6 million cases of the new coronavirus have been officially detected in Europe since the appearance of the first cases in January in the region, according to an assessment carried out by AFP.

In total, 6,000,940 cases were recorded in Europe (for 237,716 deaths), mainly in Russia (1,248,619 infections, 21,865 deaths), in Spain (825,410 infections, 32,486 deaths), in France (669,235 infections, 32,365 deaths) and the UK (530,113 infections, 42,445 deaths).
