"Two Kinds of Men": the fabulous story of Johnny's forgotten song

2020-10-08T13:24:49.901Z

This Friday leaves a new title of Johnny, "Two kinds of men". Composed by musician Daran, the song was recorded in 20

“When we said after Johnny's death that there were no more recent releases, we were in good faith.

We had completely forgotten that song.

She was sleeping in a hard drive.

We found it a few months ago ”.

Bertrand Lamblot, who was the last artistic director of Johnny Hallyday, and advised him for nearly twenty years, can thank the editor of the singer Daran for his vigilance.

Without it, we would not discover, almost three years after the disappearance of the star, a recent unpublished, "Two kinds of men", which will be unveiled on the night of Thursday to Friday at 12:01 am on streaming platforms. .

This blues was recorded during the summer of 2014 during the sessions of the album “Rester Vivant”, his latest masterpiece.

Mixed and mastered, it had been removed at the last minute from the record.

“So much so that the song is still on the album libretto,” points out Daran, who composed the music to a text by Pierre-Yves Lebert.

But I never listened to the final version.

"We can reassure him:" Two kinds of men "is tough, big vocals and big guitars, 2 minutes 57 of pure Johnny in the lineage of his last records in the form of a homecoming.

The text on severe heart burns is more anecdotal.

Discarded from an album at the last moment

Daran was not at his first attempt.

"Two Kinds of Men" is the seventh song Johnny has recorded from him.

"But like everyone else, I wrote a lot that he didn't keep," Daran smiles.

We both had an unusual story.

He was the first to ask me to write him a song after the end of my group Daran and the Chairs

(Editor's note: author of the hit “Dormir outside”, in 1994)

.

It was for the album "A la vie, à la mort" in 2002. Johnny had a text by Sandrine Kiberlain which was close to his heart but no music.

I was given 48 hours.

"And that gave" At the edge of the roads ".

The two rockers got to know each other better late.

“Especially Johnny's last two years, because at the time I was living in Canada and going to work in Los Angeles a lot,” says Daran.

I also had the chance to play his first games at the Olympia in 2000. I watched him behind the curtain, it was a lesson.

He had an incredible animal instinct and gave his life to the public every night.

"

Johnny's artistic director, Bertrand Lamblot, explains that “Two Kinds of Men” was discarded at the last moment because there were two blues that looked alike.

“Johnny really liked Daran's song - otherwise he wouldn't have recorded it - but it didn't find its place on this record.

And in the last two either.

Today, there is a real sense in releasing this blues recorded in Los Angeles with American musicians in a box set on Johnny's America.

Fans will have to wait until October 23 to discover the “Johnny: his American dream” box set, which will contain, in addition to this song, a new live performance and above all two films, Johnny's last motorcycle road trip with his biker friends in 2016 filmed by François Goetghebeur and a documentary on his American tour of 2014. “The song Deux kinds hommes also appears on the soundtrack of the road-trip, where there are only recent songs by Johnny”, specifies Bertrand Lamblot, who worked on this set with Warner Music and Laeticia Hallyday.

"Laeticia got very involved," continues Bertrand Lamblot.

Warner does nothing without it.

She has a vision, full of ideas.

It was she who thought of the photo shoot that illustrates the box.

These photos were taken for the album Rester Vivant but discarded in favor of other black and white photos.

This is probably the last time Bertrand Lamblot works on Johnny.

“I close the loop, that's fine.

I have mourned.

Daran is also a happy man.

“At the time, I was very disappointed that my song was not on the album,” he admits.

To be sung by Johnny, it was a great pride and a little money coming in.

But today, I am delighted with this twist of fate and very impatient to listen to what Johnny and Don Was did

(Editor's note: the American director of the album).

Each time, it's a great moment, a great thrill for me.

Especially since I may have composed Johnny's very last single.
