REGGIA DI CAPODIMONTE (NAPLES) - The greatest Neapolitan painter of the 17th century, as well as the most prolific with thousands of drawings, paintings and frescoes to the point of earning the nickname "Luca fa presto", is dedicated to Luca Giordano 'Luca Giordano.

From Nature to Painting ', at the Capodimonte Museum until 10 January 2021, curated by Stefano Causa and Patrizia Piscitello, from an idea by Sylvain Bellenger, director of the Museum and Real Bosco, and Christophe Leribault, director of the Petit Palais in Paris , which has already hosted 'Luca Giordano.

The triomphe de la peinture napolitaine '.

"In this second stage, in Naples - says Bellenger who defines the exhibition 'amazing' - Giordano is told as never before. The curators have been able to relocate the particularity of the great painter and also think of him in the context of Neapolitan churches, since after all it is in Naples and above all in the space of Baroque architecture, even more than in museums, that Giordano shows himself in all his dimension and gives proof of the craft and vision that he will bring to Spain, with the triumphant and joyful kidnappings that make the Escorial monastery a little less austere ".

The exhibition, dedicated to Ferdinando Bologna, created in collaboration with the Amici di Capodimonte non-profit association, is divided into ten sections with over ninety works, many of which come from important foreign museums and institutions such as Louvre, Prado (which has lent the Sacra family and the Assumption of the Virgin), Patrimonio Nacional, Fondazione Santamarca, Italian (Palazzo Abatellis, National Art Gallery of Bologna, Museums of Vicenza) and, in particular, Neapolitan (Complex of the Girolamini, Curia of Naples, Museum and Certosa di San Martino , Duca di Martina Museum, Museum of the Treasure of San Gennaro, Pio Monte della Misericordia, Italian Society of Homeland History and many others).

The installation in the Causa room, curated by Roberto Cremascoli with Flavia Chiavaroli (Cor Arquitectos) takes us to seventeenth-century living rooms in a succession of authentic "rooms of wonders".

"Giordano reinvents the Roman Baroque in an aggressive and as if unleashed version: Rubens, Cortona and Bernini are always behind him. But it is clear that to jump better he took the long run, choosing Titian and Veronese from among the masters" explain the curators.

There is the comparison with Ribera that conditions the whole story of Giordano, the 'metamorphosis' of the Baroque between Naples, Florence and Spain, up to the last works, when he returns to his city.

The path ends with an interactive multimedia installation designed and created by Stefano Gargiulo (Kaos Produzioni) which shows some of the places and works frescoed by the artist in Naples: in the church of San Gregorio Armeno, of Santa Brigida, at the Certosa di San Martino and in the Girolamini.

The visitor is called to interact with votive candles, a fulcrum where to activate the scenarios that transform the space of a small chapel with arches and vaults with images and sounds of the Neapolitan world.

The exhibition was an opportunity to proceed with the restoration of works such as 'The Good Samaritan', 'The Deposition of Christ'.
