Green light rays against migraine: exposure to this type of light, in fact, reduces the intensity, duration and frequency of migraine attacks, improving the quality of life of patients. This was revealed by a pilot study on 29 patients with episodic or chronic migraine, carried out at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Comprehensive Pain and Addiction Center and published in the journal Cephalalgia. Episodic migraine is characterized by a number of monthly attacks up to a maximum of 14 and chronic migraine from 15 attacks upwards per month. The patients involved were already veterans of several therapeutic failures and were first subjected to 1-2 hours a day of white light for 10 weeks, then after a stop of 15 days, to 1-2 hours of green light always. for 10 weeks. Patients completed a migraine assessment diary throughout the period. It was found that exposure to green light reduced pain by 60%, from 8 to 3.2 on a pain scale from 0 to 10. In addition, the majority of patients - 86% of those with episodic migraines and 63% of chronic patients - reported a halving of at least (- 50%) days with migraine attacks per month. Patients' quality of life also improved, both in terms of work and physical activity, both in the quality of sleep. "Despite many recent advances, migraine treatment remains a challenge" - emphasizes one of the authors, Amol Patwardhan. "The use of a non-drug therapy such as green light can be of profound help for those patients who prefer not to take drugs or who do not respond to them - he continues. The beauty of this approach is that it was completely free of adverse effects, also improving other aspects of quality of life such as sleep ", he concludes.
