Almost two weeks after the breathing difficulties were treated, King Harald V of Norway went to the hospital again.
In the 83-year-old, a 15-year-old artificial heart valve will be replaced on Friday, the royal palace said.
The Norwegian monarch has had breathing problems for a few weeks, according to the palace.
The procedure was necessary to improve the 83-year-old's breathing, said the royal personal physician Bjørn Bendz.
That was the result of an investigation at the end of September.
The king had heart valve surgery back in 2005.
At that time it was replaced by an artificial heart valve made of biological material.
These have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years.
Not uncommon
It is therefore not uncommon for such a flap to be replaced after a certain time, according to the palace.
Such an operation is carried out hundreds of times a year in the Reich Hospital.
In 2003, King Harald was operated on for cancer, followed in 2005 by a heart valve operation.
He had been hospitalized for several days that January for an infection.
A Covid 19 disease was excluded.
