(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 11 - The British authorities could soon resort to networks to try to stop the growing flow of illegal migrants who try to enter the country by sea, crossing the Channel from the French coast.
According to British media reports today, the new tsar in the fight against illegal immigration by sea, former marine Dan O'Mahoney, has confirmed that the authorities are ready to implement the so-called 'safe return tactic'.
The plan foresees the use of nets to block the propellers of the motors of the rubber boats on which the migrants travel, to then load them on the patrol boats that patrol the Channel and immediately bring them back to France.
The proposed method, recalls the Mail Online, is similar to that experimented by the Royal Navy to clog the propellers of the boats and force them to stop immediately.
The implementation of this new method, however, is bound to suffer delays as Paris currently refuses to allow these migrants to enter the country.
More than 7,100 migrants have reached the British coast since the beginning of the year, with a current average of over 300 per day.
