It was the mayor of the city, Johanna Rolland, who announced it. The flag will be hoisted during the first half of September.

The “Gwenn ha Du”, the famous white and black flag of Brittany, will soon be flying on the pediment of Nantes Town Hall, the Nantes mayor PS announced on social networks.

Johanna Rolland, who took part in a conference of Breton associations on Saturday, confirmed that this project, which is among her campaign promises, would be implemented soon.

"After discussions with associations, we will therefore do so during the first half of December, in connection with events celebrating Breton popular culture in Nantes and with the 50th anniversary, so symbolic, of the first concert by Tri Yann", declared the elected on Facebook and Twitter.

The re-election of Johanna Rolland, allied with the UDB (Breton Democratic Union) from the first round, was accompanied by the creation of a new delegation with “Breton issues”.

“The Gwenn ha Du is a marker of Brittany.

There is a Breton cultural fact in Nantes and the mayor is in favor of a debate on the question of the attachment of Loire-Atlantique to Brittany ”, declared Pierre-Emmanuel Marais, UDB deputy, adding that a third of the town halls of the department "already fly this flag".

"Our program provides for a debate to take place in city council to ask the state for a decision-making referendum on this issue," he recalled.

A referendum on reunification soon?

Supporters of reunification have long been calling for the organization of a referendum for a return of the Loire-Atlantique to “historic Brittany” with five departments (Ille-et-Vilaine, Finistère, Côtes-d'Armor, Morbihan et Loire -Atlantic).

“Since the creation of regional public establishments in 1972, which marks the end of Brittany with five departments, 20 surveys have shown that on average 56% of the inhabitants of Loire-Atlantique wish to be attached to Brittany.

We cannot remain deaf to citizen mobilization and we need a democratic outlet, ”added Florian Le Teuff, who is participating this Sunday in a day of debate on this issue, in the presence of a hundred elected officials from Brittany and Loire-Atlantique .
