A court has ordered two suspected speeders in custody.
The men are said to have been involved in an illegal car race on the A66 in Hesse, which led to the death of a person.
According to the police, the accident occurred on Saturday afternoon.
Two Lamborghini and a Porsche were involved.
The 29-year-old driver of the Lamborghini crashed into the central barrier between the Diedenbergen and Hofheim junctions for reasons that were not yet clear and then collided with a Skoda.
Both cars are said to have caught fire and burned out.
The person behind the wheel of the Skoda died at the scene of the accident.
The victim has not yet been identified, said a police spokeswoman on request.
Two other bystanders were injured and treated in hospital.
Investigators check cell phone video
The Lamborghini driver was also taken to a hospital.
According to the police, the 26-year-old Porsche driver initially fled, but then surrendered.
Both men are now in custody.
The driver of the second Lamborghini is on the run.
His car was seized by the police in the Hessian city of Hofheim.
A "multitude" of indications were received about the case.
The investigators check, among other things, a video that was circulating on the net and picked up by several media.
The clip was recorded with the mobile phone and shows two Lamborghini and a Porsche.
The vehicles travel fast, change lanes frequently, overtake on the right - there is a lot of traffic on the motorway at that time.
