Remedial Siberia, the antiviral drug that has recently been tested against the Corona virus and treated by US President Donald Trump after contracting the virus, has little to no effect on the chances of Corona patients recovering, a new United Nations study said yesterday (Thursday).

As part of the peer-reviewed study, the organization examined the effects of four different drugs - Ramsacibir, Hydrochlorochoin (a drug for the prevention and treatment of malaria), Interferon (an autoimmune drug) and a combination of lupinavir and ritonavir (a cocktail to treat HIV).

The drug dexamethasone, a steroid used in coronary heart disease patients in the UK, was not included in the trial.

The results of the study, conducted among 11,266 patients from 500 hospitals in 30 countries, suggest that none of the drugs has a real impact on mortality or length of stay in Corona patients' hospitals.

Samoa Swaminatan, the organization's chief scientist, said the experiment on hydrochlorocholine and the combination of lupine and ritonavir was stopped as early as June after it was shown to be ineffective.

The drug company Giliad, which developed the Remedies Siberia, rejected the study's findings: "We found it inconsistent, especially with respect to other studies on the subject. We are very concerned that the study has not yet undergone the rigorous peer review required to open a scientific discussion."

The trial's study contradicts the findings of a previous study conducted by Giliad in about 1,000 patients, which showed that treatment with remedy had increased the chance of recovering from the virus five days faster than other patients receiving a placebo.
