Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Polish Bishop Edward Janiak.
This was announced by Salvatore Pennacchio, papal nuncio in Poland.
Janiak is said to have ignored allegations of abuse against priests in the diocese of Kalisz.
He plays an important role in the documentary "Hide and Seek", released in mid-May, which deals with the sexual abuse of minors in the Catholic Church in Poland.
Seminary temporarily closed
Francis had already released Janiak from his duties in June.
The Kalisz diocese was then subordinated to the Archbishop of Lodz, Grzegorz Rys, who is said to continue to administer it.
The seminary in Kalisz will be temporarily closed, the nuncio said.
According to a report presented by the Bishops' Conference in March 2019, a total of 382 clergy were identified as perpetrators in Poland between 1990 and 2018.
There are said to have been 625 victims.
