On the first day of the curfew imposed on some 20 million French people to fight the Covid-19 epidemic, the country recorded a new record of contamination.

According to official figures published this Saturday by Public Health France, 32,427 positive cases have been identified in the past 24 hours, against 25,086 Friday and 30,621 Thursday.

Public Health France also deplores 90 deaths linked to Covid-19 recorded in hospitals since the day before.

In total, at least 33,392 people have lost their lives to this disease since the start of the epidemic, including 22,480 in hospitals.

10,399 hospitalized patients

New admissions to hospital intensive care or intensive care units are continuing: 175 patients on Saturday, up from 212 on Friday, according to the public database.

This indicator is one of the most closely monitored by the authorities, who fear a congestion of emergency and intensive care services.

The country has 10,399 Covid-19 patients currently hospitalized for a SARS-CoV-2 infection (+986 in 24 hours).

Among these patients, 1868 are registered in the intensive care or intensive care units.

Health Minister Olivier Véran said Thursday that France had 5,800 intensive care beds.

The daily number of ICU admissions climbed to 771 admissions on April 1.

At that time, at the height of the epidemic, more than 7,000 patients were hospitalized in intensive care.

The number fell sharply until the end of July, before rising steadily.

145 new clusters

The positivity rate of the tests (proportion of positive people on all the tests carried out) is still increasing and now stands at 13.1%.

On Friday it stood at 12.9%.

Finally, 1,722 new clusters are being investigated (outbreaks of infection grouping together "at least three confirmed or probable cases, within a period of seven days", according to the definition given by Public Health France), i.e. 145 more than the standby.
