The Pope accepted the resignation of the bishop of the diocese of Kalisz (Poland), Msgr.
Edward Janiak, and at the same time appointed as apostolic administrator "vacant see" Msgr.
Grzegorz Rys, archbishop of Lodz.
For some time Mgr Janiak has been accused by some victims of abuse in Poland of having covered up pedophile priests.
The story became particularly animated in the country after the brothers Tomasz and Marek Sekielski released their documentary film "Zabawa W Chowanego" ("Playing hide and seek") last May, about the scourge of pedophilia by the Polish clergy.
