Marco Cecchinato in the final at the Sardegna Open in Santa Margherita di Pula.

Tomorrow at noon he will face Serbian Laslo Djere who this morning beat Lorenzo Mosetti, forced to retire in the fourth set due to an elbow problem.

For Cecchinato it is the fourth final in his career: he has won all the other three.

For the Sicilian, access to the final is worth a further leap forward in the ATP ranking: at this point he should be around 80th place.

Cecchinato won a semifinal without history against the Serbian Petrovic, the player who had replaced the number one favorite Fognini after the forfeit for Covid.

Easy ride in the first set with only one game given to the opponent.

In the second fraction Cecchinato allowed himself the luxury of leaving the Serbian at zero.

On the other hand, it was a shame for Musetti who in the first set gave the impression that he too could reach the final: a perfect start against Djere with a 6-2 faithful mirror of what happened on the pitch.

Then the Serbian recovered and returned the score to the Italian by equalizing the scores.

Meanwhile Musetti began to feel pains in his elbow while serving.

And, on 4 to 1 for Djere, he opted for prudence and retirement.

But it also went well this way: during the week Musetti set the record for earliness in main circuit tournaments for both quarter-finals and semifinals: no eighteen-year-old had ever reached this high.

The first trophy was also awarded: in the doubles the couple Daniell (New Zealand) - Oswald (Austria) beat Colombians Cabal and Farah in two sets: 6-3, 6-4.
