To feel like a king for once: that was evidently the intention of a man whom the French police arrested in the famous Palace of Versailles.

The 31-year-old had forcibly gained access to the palace area on Saturday evening.

According to police, he thought he was a king.

The man is said to have previously had a taxi to the castle near Paris.

The driver reported the "sheet-clad" man to the authorities;

this is said to have claimed to be a king and want to enter the castle.

Upon arrival at the scene, the police found a broken window on the lock.

Shortly afterwards, the man was discovered and arrested.

The Versailles prosecutor's office confirmed the intrusion of a man who is said to have overcome the castle wall.

There was no damage to the interior of the magnificent building as a result of the incident, as a spokeswoman for the castle told the AFP news agency.

Furniture or collections are intact.
