A man was arrested on Saturday evening, October 17, and placed in custody after entering the Palace of Versailles (Yvelines).
The 31-year-old man arrived by taxi before entering the castle grounds, a police source said.
The taxi driver, who alerted the police shortly before 10:30 pm, described a man "
carrying a sheet and taking himself for a king,
" said this source.
On their arrival on the spot, the police observed a broken French window glass before finding the man and proceeding to his arrest.
The Versailles prosecutor's office has for its part confirmed the intrusion of a man who climbed the perimeter wall before entering the castle, without giving further details.
Contacted by AFP, the spokesperson for the Palace of Versailles assured that no material damage to furniture or collections was to be deplored.

This is a man who left Paris in the direction of Versailles and who allegedly told the taxi driver that he intended to enter the castle,
” she said.
