The Ministry of Health has added 37,889 new infections this Monday since Friday and has notified 217 deaths to the official count. This is the highest number recorded in one day in the second wave. In total 974,449 people have been infected and 33,992 have died since the beginning of the pandemic, according to official data provided by Health. Fernando Simón, director of the CCAES, explained that "it is expected that in the winter period the incidence will increase". In Portugal, the pandemic has exceeded the threshold of 100,000 cases on Monday, after health authorities have reported almost 2,000 new positives in the last 24 hours. At least 2,198 people have died as a result of covid-19 in the country. In Spain, the vice president of the Community of Madrid, Ignacio Aguado, has once again set a distance with the regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso by insisting this Monday on the need to "put a hard containment system for two weeks." "To avoid a total closure at Christmas, we must take measures now," he claimed in Telemadrid. The Junta de Castilla y León will confine Aranda de Duero the next midnight and will also close Burgos on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. This measure has already been applied in the cities of León, Palencia and Salamanca.
