The perpetrator stabbed her 15 times.

When she was dead, he cut her body up with a saw and sank the limbs in the sea.

The act was apparently planned.

Investigators found videos on the suspect's hard drive showing women being tortured, beheaded or burned alive.

SPIEGEL:

What kind of person is Peter Madsen?

Curpen:

He's very warm.

Very soulful.

On August 10, 2017, the Danish inventor Peter Madsen took the then 30-year-old journalist Kim Wall with him into a submarine that he had built himself.

Wall wanted to interview Madsen - instead she met her death.

Her body parts, which were only found days on the Baltic coast south of Copenhagen, had stab wounds in the genital area according to the autopsy.

Investigators suspect that Kim Wall was tortured before she was murdered.

In April 2018, a Danish court sentenced Madsen to life imprisonment.

He is currently in Herstedvester Prison, a high-security facility south of Copenhagen.

A year and a half after the verdict, Madsen made the headlines again.

In December 2019, it was said that he married in prison.

His partner Jenny Curpen confirmed the wedding shortly afterwards.

"I love and respect my husband and I am proud of him," wrote the 39-year-old on Facebook.

"Except for the one day that was and always will be a tragedy."

Curpen hesitated a long time before agreeing to a conversation.

At first she only wants to answer questions in writing, then she surprisingly agrees to a meeting.

It will take place in Copenhagen at the end of February.

SPIEGEL:

When did you first hear from Peter Madsen?

Curpen:

August 26th, 2017. I saw his photo on the news.

I knew immediately that I had to speak to this person.

That there is something significant that can change everything.

And so it was.
