After the fatal collision on the A66 near Hofheim in Hesse, the police are investigating another motorist for negligent homicide.

The Frankfurt public prosecutor said that the driver was not involved in the alleged illegal car race.

The man is said to have swerved from the center lane to the left shortly before the accident on October 10.

An approaching sports car driver is said to have evaded at 200 km / h and lost control of his vehicle.

According to the investigators, his car crashed into another uninvolved car, the driver of which died.

The victim is a 71 year old woman.

It can be assumed that the behavior of the driver who was not involved in the race was the cause of the accident, said a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office.

She did not provide any information about his identity.

The public prosecutor's office had initially investigated three sports car drivers for murder after the alleged race, but dropped this allegation.

The three men are now being investigated for "participating in prohibited motor vehicle races".

The drivers of a Lamborghini and a Porsche were taken into custody for a week.

The third driver had fled and is still being searched for by a public manhunt.
