The net inflows of the livret A amounted to 25.76 billion euros. Faced with the uncertainty generated by the Covid-19 pandemic, the French continue to prefer to put aside.

The anxiety-provoking context linked to the health crisis pushes households to save.

The French have never deposited so much money over the first nine months of the year on the Livret A, with a net collection of 25.76 billion euros.

Despite a slowdown observed in September, inflows remained high with a net amount of 1.26 billion euros, the Caisse des Dépôts reported on Wednesday, which centralizes the deposits of the livret A and the livret de développement durable et solidaire (LDDS ).

This is the weakest month since February, before the Covid-19 pandemic hit France and caused several months of confinement.

It is also worse than the 2.25 billion euros for the month of August but higher by 26% than September 2019, knowing that the month of the start of the school year is traditionally a month of low fundraising.

The collection on the Sustainable and Solidarity Development Booklets (LDDS) was only 20 million euros in September.

However, since 2008, the French have been used to withdrawing more money than they deposit on the LDDS in September and the performance of 2020 therefore reflects an above-average collection.

Added together, the Livret A and the LDDS garnered a net inflow of 1.28 billion euros in September, and 32.74 billion since the start of the year, which is also a record.

The Livret A mainly finances social housing, while the LDDS is dedicated to the social and solidarity economy as well as to energy savings in housing.

At the end of September, 443.7 billion euros were invested in total on the two, an increase of about 8% over one year.

The Caisse des Dépôts (CDC) - which centralizes the deposits of the livret A and the livret de développement durable et solidaire (LDDS) - will contribute to the government's 100 billion euro economic recovery plan to the tune of 26 billion euros.
