(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 21 - After interrupting their vacation in Greece, the Dutch royals decided to apologize to the population in a video for what they called a "betrayal of the Dutch trust".
"Even though the trip was in line with the" anti-coronavirus "rules it was unwise of us not to take into account the impact the new measures would have on our society," King Willem-Alexander says in the two-minute film.
"Since the onset of the coronavirus crisis, we have done our best to be present as much as possible for all those who need support in uncertain times. It is a difficult time for everyone. A moment of lack, limitations and concerns," continues the sovereign .
"We will continue to work with you to keep the coronavirus under control. So that everyone in our country can then resume normal life as soon as possible. This is the most important thing now and we will continue to do so, to the best of our ability. We are committed. But not infallible." , concludes the King of Holland.
The vacation shortly after the launch of new restrictive measures against Covid-19 had aroused the indignation and anger of many Dutch people.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte was also forced to mea culpa admitting that he was aware of the trip and did not stop the royals.
