The investigation into a knife attack on two tourists in Dresden two weeks ago leads into the Islamist scene.
According to SPIEGEL information, the suspect arrested on Tuesday evening has been known to the Saxon security authorities as a violent extremist for some time.
The police lead him as a threat.
Some time ago, the 20-year-old Syrian was sentenced to more than two years in prison, among other things for instructing him to commit a serious, state-endangering act of violence.
In addition, the court considered it proven that the rejected asylum seeker had recruited members for the "Islamic State" (IS).
According to SPIEGEL information, the alleged perpetrator came to Germany in 2015.
Since the early summer of 2017, he is said to have increasingly turned to IS and thought about an attack.
The man may have radicalized himself further while in detention.
A good two weeks ago, he is said to have attacked two men in downtown Dresden with a kitchen knife.
The 55-year-old from Krefeld later died in hospital, his 53-year-old companion from Cologne survived the attack.
So far it is unclear why the Syrian attacked the vacationers.
He is currently being brought before a judge at the Dresden District Court who will decide on an arrest warrant.
