The use of masks and spacing lowers the viral load of SarsCov2 by a thousand times.
This is demonstrated by a study by the IRCCS Sacro Cuore Don Calabria Hospital in Negrar (Vr) published in Clinical Microbiology and Infection and conducted on about 400 cases of COVID-19 analyzed between March and May 2020.
It was highlighted that as exposure to the infection decreased, the viral load of patients who arrived in the emergency room gradually decreased to be a thousand times lower than in March;
in parallel, the severity of the disease also decreased.
The study confirms the importance of limiting exposure to contagion with masks and physical distancing on clinical data from a large sample: therefore, keeping the transmission of the virus low also serves to reduce the viral load with which one can come into contact, thus decreasing the likelihood of a disease with severe clinical manifestations.
