(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 21 - McCartney III is the title of the third album in Paul McCartney's trilogy of classics and will be available from 11 December on Capitol Records.

The first, McCartney, was published in 1970;

the second, McCartney II, in 1980.

    50 years after his first solo work, McCartney hadn't planned to release an album in 2020, but in isolation he found himself embodying some already existing musical sketches and creating new ones.

In a short time an eclectic collection of spontaneous songs gave birth to "McCartney III": a self-produced and, literally, solo work that signals the beginning of a new decade, in the tradition of "McCartney" of the seventies and "McCartney II. "from the 1980s.

   Recorded earlier this year in Sussex, "McCartney III" is mostly built from live footage of Paul with vocals and guitar or piano, overdubbing his bass, drums ... The process began when Paul is back on an unreleased song from the early 90s, "When Winter Comes" (co-produced by George Martin).

    Speaking of the album, Paul said: "I lived in isolation on my farm with my family and went to my studio every day. I had to do some work on some film music and that turned into the opening track. and then when it was done, I thought, what am I going to do next? I had some things that I had worked on over the years, but sometimes the time ran out and they were halfway through, so I started thinking about what I had. I recorded with the instrument on which I had written the song and then gradually layered it all. I made music for myself, things I liked to do. I had no idea the work would become like an album. "

    In keeping with Linda McCartney's "McCartney" & "McCartney II" photographs, the main photos of the new album were taken by Paul's daughter, Mary McCartney, with additional photographers of Paul's nephew Sonny McCartney, as well as photos taken by Paul with his telephone (it's a family business).

   The cover is by the famous American artist Ed Ruscha.
