The change to winter time is this weekend

The French will gain an hour of sleep during the night from Saturday to Sunday. This may be the last time that we will go back

It's a little pleasure that we like to remember every year.

This weekend we will sleep an hour more.

When the face of our watches displays 3 a.m., it will then be 2 a.m., for a relaxing journey through time.

Perhaps it will be necessary to take advantage of it even more this year.

This may be the last time we will switch to winter time.

In 2018, the European Commission had indeed proposed to put an end to these annual schedule changes.

The initiative was the result of a major consultation launched with European citizens, who spoke out in favor of ending the time change.

Many consider that switching to winter time has no environmental benefit.

According to them, the gains in energy savings would be too limited to justify maintaining this “tradition”.

Problem: the harmonization of timetables across the continent is proving to be a little more complicated than expected.

Opinions differ between those who would prefer to keep daylight saving time, and those who would rather opt for winter time.

France had set up a consultation two years ago, organized by the European Affairs Committee of the National Assembly.

More than two million contributions had been received, testifying to a country quite divided on the subject: with a short lead, the French preferred to keep daylight saving time.

In March 2019, the European Parliament voted to end the time change from 2021. But the coronavirus crisis has passed there, delaying discussions between states to agree on a common time.
