The "Tagesthemen" started on Friday with guitar riffs. The band "Die Ärzte" visited the ARD news program and drew attention to the problems of the culture industry in the corona crisis.

The punk musicians of "Die Ärzte" opened the "Tagesthemen" in the evening of the first.

With guitar riffs they played the starting melody of the ARD news broadcast and said: "This is the Doctors German TV with the daily themes".

It was the first time that live music was played on the show.

However, the appearance of the Berlin band had a serious background.

Farin Urlaub, Bela B and Rod Gonzales appealed to politicians not to forget the culture industry in the corona crisis.

The people who work in the music scene would be ignored in times of Corona, said doctors-singer Urlaub.

"The problem is actually, we take culture for granted, culture is just always there," said Urlaub.

It is not noticed enough that culture not only needs commercially successful band musicians like themselves, but an entire substructure: club operators, so-called roadies, i.e. technical and construction workers, as well as smaller bands that do not yet have record contracts.

If that breaks away, it will be "long-term damage," he said.

People out of work for seven months

Drummer Bela B reported that because of the lack of opportunity to perform during the crisis, many of these people have not had a job for seven months.

"We hope to get politicians to see this industry of 1.4 million people too," he said.

Car concerts or stream concerts played no role for the band as a bridging option in the corona crisis.

"That doesn't suit us. Our audience has to rub against each other," says Bela B. The doctors had postponed her planned tour until next year.

"We will probably have to come to terms with the fact that as long as Corona is raging as it is now, that the kind of concerts we like to play are simply not possible," said Urlaub.

For smaller, lesser-known bands or club operators and the technicians, the situation is worse.

The performance was also a welcome appointment for the band to promote their new album.

"Die Ärzte" released their new album "Hell" on Friday, marking their comeback after an eight-year break.
